Introduction
The default behaviour when choosing "individual" as the type of contact is to create a standalone individual, for example: where you want to setup a job and send an invoice to an individual person.
However, you can choose to link an individual contact to a company contact. This enables you to connect an individual person to who they work for. This is useful for example when creating an invoice: you can choose from the individuals linked to a company contact for who to mark the invoice attention to.
How to Link Individual to Company
To link an individual contact to a company contact, search for and select the name of the company contact in the "Link this person to a company" search box:
When you search for an individual contact who is linked to a company, they will appear indented underneath the company they are linked to in the search results:
Usage as Billing Entities
When you link an individual contact to a company, they will no longer be eligible for usage as a billing entity on a project. Linked individuals in Hiro are intended to act as a primary contact within a company for your projects, but are not themselves responsible for paying your invoices (the company they work for is).
Hiro requires all contacts to have unique names. This may present a challenge if your organisation has actively billable projects with both the company a person works for, as well as them personally in a private capacity.
For this scenario, we recommend adding a second contact name suffixed with "(Private)" to their surname to help you differentiate between the linked and non-linked individual contacts, like in the example screenshot below. This way, you can also differentiate the contact information between the two scenarios, for example, a person might use a company branded email address for work, but use a different email address for personal matters.
